We purchased the Britax Frontier booster car seat 2 years ago for our children who were 5 and 3 at the time. I picked the Britax Frontier because it covers such a wide range of height and weight. I thought it would be the car seat that would take them until the end of needing car seats. I was wrong. My children are small for their ages (now 7 and 5) with neither of them weighing 40 lbs yet. They still cannot do the buckles on the 5 point harness themselves. I find it annoying that I have to unbuckle my 7 year old because the buckle is too difficult for her to undo. Sometimes I even have difficulty with the buckles. This is our 3rd version of Britax car seats and this seems to be a very common problem with them. Plus the fabric is terrible. We have the red/black seat and it was stained within the first month of use. Plus when washed it piled and looked even worse. It is not worth the amount of money you pay for this seat.

Let's face it Britax is the best in this field! When I got Frontier car seat (03/10) I couldn't be happier: the color, the form, everything was great... then I went to install it, I figured it's gonna be as easy as other Britax car seats. I just went thru instructions very quickly, AND that was a mistake. Long story short... YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS to install it without any pain :) My daughter was throwing up a lot in the car, so I took it out and put it in A LOT, from the point that I figured out my mistake (not following proper steps) I never had a problem after. The cover though is not great. It has not been a year, it's already ripping off on the side, and mesh part becomes snagged and fuzzy. HOWEVER, I registered Frontier when I bought it, and one reviewer wrote that Britax replaced cover for her. So I just called Britax, and I'm getting the new cover for free!!! It's under warranty!! Great job Britax!!

We bought this car seat directly from amazon in February 2010. It is a *large* mostly comfortable seat and we used in the middle of the back seat in Dodge Caliber and currently in Outlander. Yes it takes more space than any other car seat I saw thus far. I love how "smooth" Britax car seats are for buckling and unbuckling. The down side is that the threads do get entangled (especially if you first close the shoulder straps (which for some reason my siblings keep doing :( Apart from that it looks OK and feels safe.
I would give this car seat 3 stars, but one shouldn't be buying this model -- it is retired since January 2010 based on britax website and since I just found that out, I am actually pretty upset with amazon for selling it in February.. (I didn't figure out there was a difference between Frontier 85 and plain Frontier model).
